The folks at Corder Marketing needed a concept to deliver the message of Buffalo Technology’s Teratation III Network Attached Storage device as the next step solution for your backup and file storage needs. While they already had me scheduled for the shoot they also needed some input to help them target their audience, so they called me up a few days before the shot to discuss.

They previously identified the lacking ability for a single unit storage device to handle the ever growing file sizes captured by today’s digital SLR cameras, as a key source of pain and risk among pro photographers. This set the smart marketers at Corder Marketing off on a voyage to photographically conceptualize the idea that the TeraStation III is the key to ending file storage problems.

After we discussed my own storage hurdles and solutions, they came up with the king of the hill idea. The concept that they envisioned depicts the TSIII as the king of the hill, in terms of today’s top storage solution.

I am more than excited about photographing Salt Lick BBQ and the restaurant. Even years before moving to Austin, I would drag my family all the way from Houston to eat at the Salt Lick to celebrate my birthday or any other special occasion. Now I have the pleasure of photographing their entire menu and the exterior of the restaurant.
Here is a sample of video I shot while eating at the Salt Lick with family and also some video taken while there photographing stills of the pit. Double click the video below to pay in full screen mode.

I was rather anxious prior to this shoot, because food can be difficult to photograph, and I think BBQ even more so. I am very pleased with how they turned out. Here are a few of my favorites.

On top of my normal compensation, I also received the bonus of taking home a large amount of BBQ. Two days later I would take my family to Guatemala, so my assistant got a bit more of the BBQ loot than I did, but I did manage to take some on the trip. It crossed my mind that this may be the first time Salt Lick BBQ has been consumed in Guatemala. Who knows, I like to think so.

Sundry Studio designed and produced the web site for Savvy Vodka. The image of this type of product must be established as exciting and hip. To help create that brand image for Savvy Vodka, we decided to focus the photographic efforts on in-studio product photos of drink recipes specific to Savvy Vodka.

The graphic concept of fast moving lights and theme of “Austin nightlife” that was a keystone part of the web site, was also the central theme of the photographs.

There was no stylist in the studio this time. All ingredients had to be accounted for and fancy drink glasses for every shot. The colors we’re chosen to complement the web site’s design and graphics.

With some drink recipes there was an extra challenge to bring out a visually exciting image.

I really enjoyed working on these images. They represent a challenge that was successfully overcome and a end product that worked well as it’s purpose.
